Digging for Gold: Analyzing Data for Undervalued Players - Catchers

Image
I think we know that the catching position in fantasy is pretty bad for the most part.  Besides a few players, we are left scrambling for someone to fill our spot on our team, hoping they will be OK.  Well what if there are a few players that can take their game to the next level?  Who knows!  If we can get someone to outperform expectations, then that is a gem! Let's see if we can dig up a few! As always, we will be doing a blind analysis on three catchers.  With that being said, let's go! This first chart takes a look at plate discipline and exit velocities. BB% K% Z-Swing% O-Swing% SwStk% LA (degrees) EV 95 MPH+ E.V (mph) Barrels/BBE GB% FB% LD% Avg. 8.5 22 67 30.5 10.6 12.3 34.3 87.1 6.4 44.9 22.7 25.1 A. 9.7 22.2 70.2 34.5 12.9 6.8 33.3 87 7.3 52 30.7 17.2 B. 12.6 20.8 63.2 21.5 9 15.7 39.8 88.4 8.3 38.8 41.7 19.4 C. 4.8 36.6 79.4 46.9 23.4 8.2 44 91.6 10.6 47.8 29 23.2 Player A on this chart has an above average BB%, but what kind of offsets that is that t

Digging for Gold: Analyzing Data for Undervalued Players - Outfield

For this post, I will not be analyzing any OF1 candidates because this is a position of depth.   We all know that many of the top 6 outfield or even top 10 can be a solid OF1.  I will eventually do a post on on the top 10 where we can narrow down the data to see who might have an edge over the other.  Right now I am looking at the fringe outfielders ranked on websites in the 30s or higher who can be solid OF3 or even and OF2 depending on format and the team you assembled.  Let's start digging! The area I want to dig into is the players' plate discipline and exit velocities. BB% K% Z-Swing% O-Swing% SwStk% LA (degrees) EV 95 MPH+ E.V (mph) Barrels/BBE GB% FB% LD% Avg. 8.5 22 67 30.5 10.6 12.3 34.3 87.1 6.4 44.9 22.7 25.1 A. 10.3 19.7 68.5 25.5 9.6 9.5 37.2 88.7 8.9 49.4 34.6 16 B. 10.4 28.7 66.4 24.9 12.2 11.8 47.4 90.8 14 42.4 35.8 21.8 C. 13.9 21.3 64.1 19.4 8.2 13.4 41.3 90 8.4 41.3 35.7 23 Player B doesn't have as good as plate discipline as Player A or C a

Digging for Gold: Analyzing Data for Undervalued Players - Third Base

Just like shortstop, third base is quite loaded as well.  You can go through the list and see that any of the top 15 available would probably be OK.  However, today I want to to do a blind analysis with three players.  I know that a lot of these players are like splitting hairs, but being able to choose the right one based on your needs/wants is super important.  I have been in situations before where I had to make a choice between a few players and it was tough.  I would choose one only to realize that I liked the other player better.  Due to these tough choices, let's start analyzing! In this first chart we will look at each player's plate discipline and exit velocities. BB% K% Z-Swing% O-Swing% SwStk% LA (degrees) EV 95 MPH+ E.V (mph) Barrels/BBE GB% FB% LD% Avg. 8.5 22 67 30.5 10.6 12.3 34.3 87.1 6.4 44.9 22.7 25.1 A. 4.5 25.9 78 45.5 18.2 9.2 43 89.6 12.6 45.6 32.3 22.1 B. 10.6 23.4 70 25.9 10.2 14.7 45.5 91.2 9.7 38.4 37.1 24.6 C. 9.2 13.7 70.1 28.9 5.9 17.7 44.
